 FinalPROJECT

Our Final Project it’s about making a SL magazine. This magazine will contain photos, tips and tutorials about Second Life, like how to play, contests, projects, etc.

We choose this project because we like the editorial area and we had a good experience with blogs like our blogs for this class.

This is important because we want to give lots of information about SL! And let people to know about it.

Unfortunately could not attend the exhibition of my final project because other matters took me a long time.

Interview toJENNEDIBOU

The other day in class we did an interview to jenne Dibou. She is a builder, designer in any kind of 3D and 2D specification, and also creator of the Forgotten City in second life.

I unfortunately lost my images of the day, but I think that interview was a great experience because we learned the experience of this person in second life and how important it is in your life.

Here are some questions our interview:

Since when are you in SL?
I am here in SL since 2007, and I built my first cube around April of 2007.

What do you like most about SL?
I like the most, it's always changing, always something new things coming, and I can learn non-stop tinkering around^^

Well Jenne, the avatar you are using now is the same one from the beginning? Or has it changed too much?
My avatar changed a lot, yes. First I was blonde, but then I decided follow my RL appearance, and I the last few years i worked on it. Now matches about 75 %:)

How much time do you spend on SL on a regular day?
In 2007-2008-2009 about 14-16 hours a day. And from 2010 it reduced to cc. 6-8 hours

Do you think people can find a job, education, love and friendship in a virtual place like SL?
Yes, i believe, SL can be a base of a nice life. Certainly it must be connected somehow into RL, but yes, here can be found anything from job to relationship, etc.

Who invite you? Or how you decided to start on this game?
I read about SL in a Hungarian website as an interesting morph. so i gave it a shot. And i learned the news was wrong: SL is not a game. It’s a second life.

Do you work with other 3D programs or any other designing programs?
I usually work with Maya. This is the first i learned, but i tried almost all of them. I am always seeking for the best pipeline for SL and it changes. Depends on the job, and the version of SL viewer

Why do you select second life? Why not another 3D game online like IMVU?
I tried one another world, that already closed... forgot the name, other creators moved there to try it. But i think any other virtual world is so nice complex as SL. and well.... i know mostly only this one ^^

If you designed an environment in SL, how would it be like?
It’s always abandoned, and ruined a bit, but still can be seen, it was fancy once a long time ago

Have you tried to do 3D designs in other places besides Second Life?
Yes, i worked in some other small projects, but i made only mesh models, nothing more. Actually i don’t like model too much on the computer, i prefer clay, water and dirt^^

Do you work alone? Or you have a group work?
I make my models alone, but i can't script. I am too dumb for that, i have a partner: Mandy Marseille, she makes all my scripts and sounds.

What inspires you to design?
My inspirations coming from everywhere. Any kind of art, or any part of life. I just got impulses, and it mirrors back in my creations.

How to build something simple in sl?

Build something simple in second life is very easy.

Only you go to build menu and building displays different options to develop what you want.

In second life you can build everything. You only need a good imagination and creativity.

In class we learned very well how build. Here are two pictures of our work:

Skimming and Scanning
In this class we did some exercises to learn about two styles for read, Skimming and scanning.
Here is the explanation about these terms:

Skimming:

Skimming is a speed reading technique which is used to locate the general sense of reading or some part of it. This technique will become much time and gives you a general idea of what is the text or paragraph.

Scanning:

Scanning is a skill that requires you to read quickly in the search for specific information. To scan a reading text, you must start at the top of the page and then move your eyes quickly to the bottom. In general, exploration is a technique that is useful when you are looking for an answer to a question known. This is especially useful when taking a test.

Here are the links so you too can practice or learn:

ResumeandCOVERletter

For this assignment we had to make our first resume and cover letter as nearly graduates, because is very important is indispensable that we learn to do a well written resume.
Here is my resume and then my cover letter.

TOEFL Test your knowledge

For this assignment I had to practice test for the TOEFL that consisted in a listening test, a structure test, a vocabulary test and a reading test.

I liked practice this test because I need learn much more the language in all forms.

For me not was easy, but I consider that most important is learn from our mistakes.

All test I liked, but the vocabulary test was my favorite because at ten seconds I have answer the questions and that caused me to have to think faster.

TWITTER
Is an online social networking service and microblogging service that enables its users to send and read text-based posts of up to 140 characters, known as "tweets" It was created in March 2006 by Jack Dorsey and launched that July. The service rapidly gained worldwide popularity, with over 300 million users as of 2011, generating over 300 million tweets and handling over 1.6 billion search queries per day. It has been described as "the SMS of the Internet."
Twitter Inc. is based in San Francisco, with additional servers and offices in New York City.

CREATION
Twitter's origins lie in a "daylong brainstorming session" held by board members of the podcasting company Odeo. Dorsey introduced the idea of an individual using an SMS service to communicate with a small group. The original project code name for the service was twitter, an idea that Williams later ascribed to Noah Glass, inspired by Flicker and the five-character length of American SMS short codes. The developers initially considered "10958" as a short code, but later changed it to "40404" for "ease of use and memorability." Work on the project started on March 21, 2006, when Dorsey published the first Twitter message at 9:50 PM Pacific Standard Time (PST): "just setting up my twitter".

GraphicDesigners
Graphic Designers are in charge of making, exposing and connecting ideas. We are objective people, it means that we design with an specific purpose which is creating an image, graphic product or service that is going to be sold or exposed. This product has to be striking and it has to agree with the customer (directly). Graphic Designers are not artists who work according to the emotions they want to convey (Indirect).

This definition was made by me and my friends.

  What are SL Magazines For?

Prad Prithivi, the well-known designer, has recently posted a thought-provoking and provocative piece on Second Life magazines – The Devil Rezzes Prada.  Although he is talking about fashion magazine specifically, I think it’s a good idea for all Second Life magazines (and, for that matter, real life, magazines too) to look at themselves occasionally and see what they’re doing too.

When I started Prim Perfect, it was with a certain remit.  There were no Second Life furniture, homes and gardens magazines then available (for that matter, we’re still the only specialist magazine in this area).

My intention was that we should serve three distinct groups:
1) the relative newbies (as I was then), trying to furnish their own homes.  We should make clear the range of designers and styles available, and show what could be done with a range of primmages and sizes.  We would also supply tips and tricks to help.
2) those people who wanted to be self-indulgent and, heedless of the cost or primmage, have the very best.  This, of course, can make for glorious eye-candy!
3) the designers – to give them a chance to get their work out there – through articles, through advertising and through additional features such as the regular Treasure Hunt which was designed to raise awareness and increase store traffic.
